Bubbaloo History

In the early 1980s, a revolutionary bubble gum was born: Bubbaloo, the first bubble gum with a liquid center. It made its debut in the Mexican and Brazilian markets and was an instant hit.

Bubbaloo was produced by a company called Canderaria, and it was unlike any other gum at the time, small, but packing a punch with that liquid center. Its mascot was a cool cat named Bubba, who became a beloved figure among gum chewers. Bubbaloo comes in a variety of flavors, including Mint, Blueberry, Strawberry, Cherry, Cola, Green Apple, Grape, Banana, and Tutti Frutti. Here, we tested banana.

Our Take

The Bubble Bunch tested a standard one-piece serving (5g).

Liquid center alert! The banana flavor came at us like a wrecking ball, a total banana party in our mouths, though the party was over pretty quickly. If you like the flavor of banana, you’ll love it here; our reviewers were split, depending on their affinity for the yellow fruit.

Flavor duration landed just under seven minutes, not great, not terrible. That strong opening makes it easy to notice the moment the flavor fades.

Texture is where Bubbaloo stands out: that liquid center is something almost no other bubble gum offers. Once the liquid is chewed up, the gum settles into a nice, normal bubble-gum consistency.

On bubbles, only one of the Bubble Bunch managed a large one, the rest of us were stuck with mediums and smalls. Don’t expect to break any world records with this one.
